Idku LNG port is the largest specialized LNG export facility in Egypt capable to accommodate the largest LNG vessels up to 160,000 m³.
The port facilities comprise anchorage waiting area, a free stand breakwater, a
dredged approach channel of 4 km long and 230 m wide, a turning basin of 600 m
in diameter, a trestle style jetty 2.4 km long.
An LNG berth located at the jetty head and comprises a loading platform with three loading arms and one vapour return arm. Four breasting dolphins and six mooring dolphins facilitate the mooring of the LNG tanker to the LNG berth.

Idku LNG Port is located on Egypt’s Mediterranean Coast
on the East of Bay of Abu Qir, 40 km east of Alexandria.

Management:
The port is managed and operated by port operations department, which offer
services to LNG vessels include the following
• Port Operations
• Port control
• Port Authorities
• Pilotage
• Port regulations
• Port Scheduling
The marine department provides a safe and efficient Port Operation to
accommodate different sizes of vessels calling the Port.
ISO Certification
In January 2007 Idku LNG Port operations became the first port in Egypt
certified for ISO 9001-2001, 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001
Pre Arrival Information
Vessels calling Idku port are required to provide the Port Operations with the
following:
· Where applicable, ETA 7 days, to be updated 72/48/24/12/6 hours before
arrival.
· The 72 hours ETA notice shall include the pre arrival data as mentioned in
the port regulations manual.
· Within two hours of arrival, vessels should contact “Port Control” by VHF
Ch 17
Approaches
The approach channel and the break water re-aligned to the direction 315° – 135°
to protect the jetty area from the prevailing North West wind.
Pilotage
Available 24 hours a day, pilotage is compulsory for all vessels navigating
within the port area, except for the following exempted vessels where the Master
has, in the opinion of Port management, sufficient knowledge of the port and
approaches:
• Supply boats authorized by Port Management to use the port on a regular base
for their offshore operations and maintenance.
• All tugs operating as such exclusively within Idku LNG Port Area.
• Military, Coastguard, Customs or Police Vessels
• Any other vessel exempted by the Port Management.
Boarding Area
Vessels arriving from sea shall proceed to pilot boarding area two nautical
miles from the channel entrance.
Towage
All towage operations within the port limits shall be performed by tugs provided
by the Port Management.
The port operates:

2 mooring launches
1 pilot boat
Vessel acceptance:
Before vessel acceptance a full compatibility studies to be carried out using
analysis computer program based on the OCIMF recommendations.
Port Services
Only services provided or authorized by the Port Management shall be utilized
within the port area.
